I am first and always a poet. But I soon discovered that genres are porous and lean into one another. This accounts for the narrative quality of some of my poems and the lyrical quality of much of my prose.
We are at the end of the ‘Age’ of Post-modernism and the beginning of an ‘Age’ that has yet to be identified and named–the Age of #Multimedia is one tongue-in-cheek way to describe the kinds of texts contemporary writers are producing, publishing, distributing and exhibiting.
And I’ve noticed that texts and media also lean into one another, a realization that has sparked several of my efforts in poetry to incorporate physical forms from the art of painting and, as most poets do, sonic elements from music and song.
